Privacy, in plain language
This page explains how the current Piece by Piece product handles data. It is factual product information, not a formal privacy notice from the site owner.
Account and workspace data
Creating an account stores your email address, display name, optional profile image and password security records. The service also stores cloud lessons, class profiles, preferences, sessions and lesson-sharing records that belong to your account. Passwords, recovery codes and password-reset tokens are stored as one-way hashes, not readable values. Resend processes your email address and transactional messages for account notifications and password recovery when email delivery is configured.
Data kept in your browser
Piece by Piece uses local browser storage for appearance choices and parts of the planning workflow, including favourites, recent activity, completed units, lesson drafts and your personal activity bank. This information stays in that browser unless it is also saved to your cloud workspace.
Essential cookies only
An essential sign-in cookie keeps your account session active for up to 30 days. The teaching assistant can also use an essential thread cookie for up to 24 hours so a conversation can continue. Both are HTTP-only, same-site cookies and are secured on the live HTTPS site. No advertising or analytics cookies are configured in the current codebase.
When AI is used
AI features run only when you request them. The prompt and relevant lesson, activity or page context needed for the request are sent to the OpenAI API to produce the response. Do not enter student names, contact details, health information or other identifying student data. AI output can be inaccurate and should be reviewed before classroom use.
Shared lesson links
Anyone with an active shared lesson link can read that lesson without signing in. You can revoke a link from your workspace, and deleting a lesson or your account removes its sharing record. Avoid putting confidential or identifying information in a lesson you intend to share.
Your controls
You can update your name and profile image, change your password, end active sessions and permanently delete your account from Settings. Account deletion removes the associated cloud lessons, class profiles, preferences, sessions and shared links, and clears Piece by Piece browser data on the device used for deletion.
